About page image header
Peace Arch Chorus is a fun-loving and caring group of women from all over the Lower Mainland and all different walks of life. We meet to sing, to learn and to grow. Our vocal repertoire is not limited to strict barbershop music, as we dabble in several genres of music. Our one criteria is that the music is a cappella, meaning there is no instrumentation other than our voices. Speaking of voices, no prior singing experience is required to join the chorus, just a love of music, a penchant for learning and a trainable ear.

If you are a woman who enjoys singing, come and join us on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 10:00, at Bethany-Newton United Church in Surrey, British Columbia.  New members are always welcome.

Headshot of Lisa Hood - DirectorOUR DIRECTOR

One of the best basses in the world, we love her and are sure you will too. With lots of energy and enthusiasm, Lisa Hood coaches us on vocal production, directs us through our music and teaches us to be a better chorus.

A 3rd Generation barbershopper with over 20 years of singing, dancing, directing and coaching, Lisa brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this chorus. Growing up in Barbershop and spending all of her adult life immersed in the craft has resulted in a keen understanding of the art form which she enjoys sharing with anyone who will listen!

Lisa has been singing with her other chorus ~ Lions Gate ~ since 1995 where she has held many positions and has traveled and sang on countless stages winning a myriad of gold medals. In October 2007 she and the 125 member chorus competed at the International Contest in Calgary, AB and came away with the Bronze Medal. 3rd Place in the world is an exciting place to be and they plan on going for the gold next time!! She also has many varied quartet medals hanging in her jewelery box, and hopes one day to melt them all down to make one big one!!

She also sings with her Region 13 Championship & 8th Place International quartet... read more about Frenzy here.

Lisa also currently sings in her Mixed Barbershop Quartet "Afterglow" which formed in 2004 and after never being able to find a female Bass to sing with Sean stepped in to “help” them out.  With 3 women and 1 man it can be difficult to find both music and costuming that works for them, but this 4some found their niche and are known for their Jazzy and sassy style. In the past year they’ve all gone on to other projects but still sing together at the occasional gig and always spend the whole month of December together singing all around the Lower Mainland spreading Christmas cheer wherever they go!

Come and experience our chorus under the direction of this young, hip woman.
